Nationwide Building Society Savings Rates 2026: Accounts & ISAs

UK Nationwide Savings Rate Guide • September 2026

Nationwide Building Society Savings Rates 2026: Accounts & ISAs

Nationwide’s savings range in 2026 stretches from a 6.50% AER variable Flex Regular Saver for qualifying current-account customers to fixed-rate bonds, Cash ISAs, limited-access accounts, children’s savings and straightforward instant-access products. The highest percentage is not automatically the right account because monthly funding limits, withdrawal rules and fixed terms change how useful each rate really is.

This page compares the current Nationwide savings rates checked on 18 September 2026, explains which accounts are designed for easy access or locked-away money, and shows when a Cash ISA can matter for tax rather than simply chasing the largest headline AER.

Rate and independence notice: Building-society.org is not Nationwide Building Society. Rates can change or products can be withdrawn after this review. Always reopen the individual Nationwide product page before applying or transferring a large balance.

Rate snapshot checked 18 September 2026. Fixed-rate product pages effective from 26 August 2026 were used where newer than older comparison snapshots. Variable rates remain changeable.

Which Nationwide Savings Account Fits Your Goal?

Start with how you expect to use the money. A 6.50% regular saver, a 4.70% fixed ISA and a 2.30% instant-access account solve very different problems.

Nationwide Flex Regular Saver: 6.50% AER

Flex Regular Saver currently pays 6.50% AER/gross a year variable. It is one of Nationwide’s highest headline savings rates, but it is not a lump-sum account. You can currently save up to £200 a month for 12 months.

6.50% Current AER/gross variable rate.
£200 Maximum monthly saving.
12 months Current account term.
3 withdrawals Allowed before the lower rate is triggered.

If you make a fourth withdrawal during the term, Nationwide currently reduces the rate to 1.05% AER/gross for the rest of the 12-month period.

Why £2,400 does not simply earn £156 at 6.50%: the money is added gradually rather than sitting in the account for a full year. Nationwide’s current illustration says paying the maximum £200 on the first of each month would produce approximately £84.50 interest at the current rate, assuming no withdrawals and no rate change.

Nationwide Fixed Rate Bond Rates in 2026

Nationwide’s current fixed-rate bonds are designed for lump sums that can remain untouched until maturity. The online bond lets you choose 1, 2, 3 or 5 years and currently allows deposits only during the first 14 days after opening.

3 year

5 year

Do not put your emergency fund into a fixed bond. Nationwide’s current Fixed Rate Online Bond does not permit withdrawals during the term. A higher fixed rate is poor value if you later need money that the product will not release.
Prefer a branch? Nationwide also offers a Fixed Rate Branch Bond. Nationwide’s current fixed-rate information says the branch option works like the online bond but is opened in person, and recent 2026 product updates have applied equivalent rates to the matching online and branch terms.

Nationwide Cash ISA Rates 2026

Nationwide’s fixed Cash ISA rates currently run from 4.50% to 4.70% AER/tax-free. These accounts can be attractive when you want certainty and tax-free interest, but early access is not free.

3 years

5 years

Nationwide’s current Fixed Rate Cash ISA requires the account to be funded during the application. You cannot simply top it up whenever you like after opening. Funding can be through an ISA transfer or money moved from a Nationwide account, subject to the current application process.

Nationwide savings promise: Nationwide says its equivalent fixed-rate Cash ISA rate will match or beat its equivalent fixed-rate bond rate. In the current September 2026 range, the 3- and 5-year Cash ISAs pay slightly more than the equivalent fixed bonds.

Nationwide Triple Access Saver vs Triple Access ISA

The two current Triple Access products both pay 3.30% AER at this review, but one is an ordinary taxable savings account and the other is a Cash ISA paying tax-free interest.

1 Year Triple Access Saver

3.30%
  • AER/gross variable.
  • UK residents aged 16 or over.
  • Online and branch management.
  • Up to three withdrawals without a rate reduction.
  • Fourth withdrawal reduces rate to 1.05% for the remainder of the term.

1 Year Triple Access ISA

3.30%
  • AER/tax-free variable.
  • UK residents aged 18 or over, subject to ISA eligibility.
  • Interest does not count towards your Personal Savings Allowance.
  • Up to three withdrawals at the higher rate.
  • Fourth withdrawal reduces rate to 1.05% for the remainder of the term.
Three withdrawals means three, not three per month. These are one-year products. A fourth withdrawal during the term currently triggers the much lower 1.05% variable rate for the remainder of the term.

Nationwide Instant Access Savings Rates

Instant-access accounts trade some headline return for flexibility. Nationwide currently offers a better easy-access rate to qualifying current-account customers through Flex Instant Saver than through its standard Instant Access Saver.

Flex Instant Saver

2.30% AER
  • Variable.
  • Unlimited withdrawals.
  • 12-month term.
  • Nationwide current-account customers only.
  • Managed online through Nationwide’s digital banking services.

Instant Access Saver

1.10%–1.20%
  • £1–£9,999: 1.10% AER.
  • £10,000–£49,999: 1.15% AER.
  • £50,000+: 1.20% AER.
  • Unlimited withdrawals.
  • Open to UK residents aged 16 or over.
Emergency-fund rule: money set aside for car repairs, urgent travel, household bills or another unexpected cost normally needs reliable access. A lower-rate instant-access account can be more useful for that purpose than a higher fixed rate that prevents withdrawals.

Nationwide Children’s Savings Rates

Nationwide currently has two noticeably different children’s savings routes. FlexOne Saver is operated by an eligible young FlexOne customer, while Children’s Future Saver is held by an adult with parental responsibility for a child.

FlexOne Saver

5.00% AER
  • Variable rate.
  • For FlexOne current-account holders aged 11–17.
  • Current maximum balance £5,000.
  • Unlimited withdrawals.
  • Online and branch management.

Children’s Future Saver

2.80% AER
  • Variable rate.
  • Adult with parental responsibility saves for a child under 18.
  • Current annual saving limit £5,000.
  • One withdrawal without rate reduction.
  • Second withdrawal lowers the rate to 1.35% for the rest of that account year.

Already Have a Nationwide Savings Account? Check Your Exact Issue

Your existing Nationwide rate may not match the account currently advertised to new applicants. Older products and older issue numbers can have different rates, even when the account names look similar.

Nationwide says existing savings, ISA and bond customers can usually find their rate by logging in to the Nationwide app or Internet Bank. If the account is not fixed-rate and you know its name, Nationwide also provides an online rate-check tool.

Useful ongoing check: Nationwide’s SavingsWatch service can send eligible members information about changes to their existing savings rates, new products and an annual savings summary.

Cash ISA Rules for the 2026/27 Tax Year

For the current 2026/27 tax year, the overall adult ISA subscription limit remains £20,000. The tax year runs from 6 April 2026 to 5 April 2027.

£20,000 Overall ISA subscription limit for 2026/27.
18+ Minimum age to open an adult Cash ISA under current ISA rules.
Tax-free Interest earned within a Cash ISA is not subject to UK income tax.
Sole account Adult ISAs cannot be held jointly.
ISA transfer mistake: if you want to preserve the ISA status of existing money, use the receiving provider’s formal ISA-transfer process. Do not casually withdraw the balance to a normal bank account and assume you can always put it back without affecting your allowance or tax treatment.

Important Cash ISA Change From 6 April 2027

A recently published HMRC measure changes how much younger savers will be able to subscribe to Cash ISAs from the next tax year. This does not reduce the current 2026/27 £20,000 limit.

2026/27 tax year

£20,000

Current overall adult ISA subscription limit, including Cash ISAs.

From 6 April 2027

£12,000 cash limit

HMRC says people under 65 will have a £12,000 annual Cash ISA subscription limit within the £20,000 overall ISA limit. Savers aged 65 or over will retain a £20,000 Cash ISA limit.

Planning point: if you are comparing Nationwide Cash ISAs during late 2026 or early 2027, check which tax year your contribution will fall into. A contribution made before 6 April 2027 is governed by the 2026/27 rules, while later subscriptions will fall under the new rules.

Cash ISA or Ordinary Nationwide Savings Account?

An ordinary savings account can still be tax-efficient if your total taxable savings interest remains within your available Personal Savings Allowance. For 2026/27, the allowance is currently £1,000 for basic-rate taxpayers, £500 for higher-rate taxpayers and £0 for additional-rate taxpayers.

Ordinary savings may suit you when

  • The gross rate is materially higher than the comparable Cash ISA rate.
  • Your savings interest is likely to stay within your available tax allowances.
  • You value joint-account availability.
  • You do not need the long-term ISA tax wrapper.

A Cash ISA may matter more when

  • Your savings interest could exceed your Personal Savings Allowance.
  • You are an additional-rate taxpayer with no Personal Savings Allowance.
  • You want to retain money inside the ISA tax wrapper over several tax years.
  • The ISA rate is equal to or higher than a comparable taxable Nationwide product.
Do not compare gross and tax-free rates mechanically. Your actual position depends on your tax band, other savings interest, available allowances and whether maintaining ISA status has value for future years.

Nationwide and Virgin Money Share the Same FSCS Protection Limit

Nationwide currently states that eligible deposits across Nationwide and Virgin Money are combined for Financial Services Compensation Scheme protection.

£120,000 Current standard FSCS limit per eligible person across the combined Nationwide and Virgin Money position.
£240,000 Current combined standard limit stated for eligible joint deposits held by two qualifying people.
Large-balance warning: do not assume that £120,000 with Nationwide plus another £120,000 with Virgin Money gives one person £240,000 of standard protection. Add eligible balances under both brands together and check the current FSCS rules before depositing a large amount.

Nationwide’s Savings Promises: Details Worth Knowing

Nationwide publishes seven savings commitments. Some are particularly relevant when comparing rates because they affect existing members, fixed-product maturity and ISA transfers.

No “new customer only” savings accounts Nationwide says existing customers will not be excluded simply because they already bank or save with the Society.
Member-exclusive products Nationwide can offer accounts reserved for qualifying existing members, subject to eligibility.
Fixed ISA promise Nationwide says its fixed Cash ISA rate will match or beat the equivalent fixed bond rate.
ISA transfer interest Nationwide says eligible transferred ISA money starts earning interest from the application point where the funds are free to move, subject to its stated conditions.
Maturity rate guarantee If the qualifying replacement fixed rate changes between Nationwide’s maturity notice and maturity, Nationwide says the better rate applies when you respond by the deadline.
SavingsWatch Eligible members can register for rate-change and savings-product notifications.

What AER, Gross and Tax-Free Actually Mean

AER Annual Equivalent Rate. It shows what the rate would look like if interest were paid and compounded once a year, making savings accounts easier to compare.
Gross The interest rate before any tax that may be due on taxable savings interest.
Tax-free The contractual rate where the interest is exempt from UK income tax, such as qualifying Cash ISA interest.
Fixed The stated rate does not change during the agreed fixed term, subject to the product terms.
Variable The provider can change the rate up or down in accordance with the account terms.

Common Nationwide Savings Rate Mistakes

Choosing 6.50% without noticing the £200 monthly cap The Flex Regular Saver headline rate does not mean you can deposit a large lump sum and earn 6.50% on all of it for a full year.
Using a fixed bond for emergency savings Nationwide’s current fixed bonds do not allow withdrawals during the term.
Making a fourth Triple Access withdrawal The current rate falls from 3.30% to 1.05% for the remainder of the term after the fourth withdrawal.
Ignoring an ISA early-access charge Fixed Cash ISA closure can cost between 60 and 300 days’ interest depending on the selected term.
Using an old Nationwide rate table Fixed rates changed several times during 2026. Check the individual live product page immediately before applying.
Assuming your existing issue pays the new-account rate Older issue numbers can have different rates. Use Nationwide’s existing-account rate checker.
Comparing Cash ISA rates without considering tax A slightly lower ISA rate can still be valuable to someone whose taxable savings interest exceeds their available allowance.
Counting Nationwide and Virgin Money separately for FSCS The current standard protection limit is shared across eligible deposits under both brands.
